Dynamic Process Analysis

Dynamic Process Analysis (Gabriel Giovene, Noe Ayala)
A dynamic process is considered a collection of activities or tasks that without a predetermined sequence of execution. What this means is that it provides flexibility to data workers that can reference the process flow at the runtime based on the information available to the process. Another way that we can look at the dynamic process is that it involves frequent changes including adaptations, customer needs, and business goals.

The dynamic business process that we have decided to do is the marketing process, which is defined as involving the changes that organizations make with your marketing approach and strategies, with this depending all on the customers behaviors. Staying on top of dynamic marketing can help you change your marketing activities when the customers show changes, and also give an organization the opportunity to increase their engagements and sales, which every company strives for.

Which social media information system (SMIS) supports the process (pick just one)? (Ex. Instagram supports marketing, LinkedIn supports recruiting)

Eli Lilly's Social Captial
Our textbook expresses, “Social capital is the investment in social relations with the expectation of returns in the marketplace.” The values that social capital provides is possible information on opportunities, problems, new studies, upcoming trends, etc. It can also provide an influence on the name of the company in a positive way. Another way is social credentials, being liked by big names or associated with bigger companies will help others want to work with you or use your company instead of another. Lastly, it gives reinforcement, being associated with other trustworthy organizations and successful ones, it will allow you to identify as one of them and also help you strive to become like them and better. Eli Lilly and Co. have many partnerships and relationships from science research to college universities. They are known and trusted by other big companies and partner with known medicine companies, estimating their social capital to be great in the eyes of the world that knows them.

Enterprise Social Network
When we talk about Enterprise Social Network it is a private internet social networking. What it does is make collaborations easier when it comes down to team members communicating across silos. Why this can be considered essential is because it gives employee engagement a higher level, while giving these teams the ability to show off some of their creative ideas to share. It is important for the companies to understand that enterprise social networks can help employees be able to give higher productivity when it comes to completing tasks and also collaborating with each other.

Enterprise 2.0
Enterprise 2.0 is a web 2 tool that makes it a lot easier to share and organize information throughout the company and teams. It gives you the ability to tag and rate work, while making it easier to find information and make judgements. When reviewing how Enterprise 2.0 works it helps employees, partners, suppliers, and customers the ability to work together, while building networks around the sites and also sharing important information. Some of these sites that they may use consists of wikis, blogs, social networking, and also tagging, most organizations have begun to use these types of collaborative processes.

SLATES
SLATES is a term that was mentioned by Andrew McAfee, that is extremely important for navigating Web 2.0. What it stands for is Search, Links to other websites, Authoring, Tags, Extensions, and signals. Search means finding the content on keyword searches, Links to other websites refers to connecting information sources together. Authorizing means that people bring their work together in a collaborative nature, also allowing people to share their points with one another. Tags mentions that you are organizing all your information, with the use of one word or two, giving you the ability to find information with keywords. Extensions used for making application platforms and document servers into one. Last, what signals mentions that you use extension technology, for example being RSS feed.

Eli Lilly's Social Networking Enterprise (Carlos Paco)
Eli Lilly uses Yammer for their social networking enterprise. Employees are encouraged to use Yammer's Viva Engage to collaborate with sites across the country and globe. Below are some purposes Yammer is used for:
  • ask questions regarding training,
  • start informal groups,
  • inquire about upcoming events,
  • post pictures and videos of past charity events,
  • announce company achievements and milestones reached, and
  • post pictures of employee pets for international pet day.
  • post pictures of office and holiday events.

SMIS security
Eli Lilly and Co. do a great job on addressing any SMIS security concerns that their contributors may have. They do this by having a dedicated tab on their website called “Social Media Guidelines”, where they provide links of all the guidelines from the social media they use. As well as their very own personal guidelines so people know. They also have a “Privacy Statement "tab addressing what information is being shared and even steps on how it is possible to opt out of this in certain systems.

Employee Social Media Policy
Eli Lilly has a social media guideline that they enforce provided by them and the respective platforms, they are as follows:
  • Refrain from sharing comments that contain the following for example:
    • Use of their products for purposes that are not approved by the appropriate regulatory body.
    • Comments or inferences about competitors
    • Information that is false
    • Defamatory comments: abuse; threats; or inappropriate statements
    • Confidential or non-public information belonging to yourself or others.
    • Advertising or promoting sites, products or services.
  • Be mindful of others intellectual property; don't post any content that will infringe others copyright or trademark.
These are some examples of important guidelines that they have on their website about using social media pages on their behalf.

Inappropriate Content and Unfavorable Reviews
Inappropriate content is not allowed on the majority of social media platforms. Eli Lilly is not in control of those platforms so; they have to leave it up to those companies to delete any inappropriate content linked to them. If they see anything they can have it reported to the higher authorities for it to be removed. Unfavorable reviews are also a similar concept, where if they want the person in charge of their social media and other online systems that the public can post their reviews, this person can just remove the ones they do not like.

Hardware (Carlos Paco)
Computer hardware consists of any physical parts, electronic components, and related gadgetry that contributes to a computer system. Hardware components include input devices, output devices, and storage devices that are utilized and determined by their intended function and role with the system. Based on the interview conducted the hardware being used is effective and the area that can be improved is related to WIFI strength and IS communication. That said there’s always room to improve on process and equipment to make it more user friendly for functionality and efficiency, but that’s of no significance if there’s not strong IS communication that corresponds with the hardware and software. Some common hardware used are monitors, laptops, desktops, mouse, keyboards, smart watches, and smartphones.

More specific hardware components used for the buffer preparation processes are:

Business laptops are given to manufacturing area management that are equipped with Intel Processors with a possible upgrade after 3 - 5 years, depending on specific job functions and/or roles. Below are the device specifications of the manager interviewed. (Carlos Paco)

Among the laptop’s storage area management also has the option of storing data utilizing OneDrive, a cloud storage service from Microsoft.

Analysis Software is a set of collected instructions, data, or computer programs that are used to operate machines and execute particular activities. Software is the opposite of hardware in which software is exclusively internal and not physical as hardware components are. Software is a broad term to describe and define the internal applications, programs, and scripts that operate various computing devices. Furthermore, software can be divided into two principal classifications, which are application software and system software. Application software refers to software (computer programs) that is designed to perform specific personal, educational, and business functions and processes that can be associated to meet needs or requirements within communication, creativity, and productivity for the user. When the user interacts with software application programs and executes a command the application software assists the user in performing that specific task. (Carlos Paco)

Basic Types and Categories of Software

Some common horizontal applications that the mangers uses at Eli Lily are:

Some common vertical applications that the managers uses at Eli Lilly are:

Virtualization (Noe Ayala)

Virtualization is the process that allows a more efficient utilization of physical computer hardware. Three types of virtualizations are:
  • PC virtualization
  • Server virtualization
  • Desktop virtualization
Eli Lilly and Co. uses virtualization for published applications and desktop virtualization. This allows any employee to access their desktop workstation from any computer they have as long as they have their sign in information to Lilly’s virtualization environment. This allows a lead to inform their team of any changes like scheduling, shipping, problems, and all the things in that area, while they are not in office. Having this is software is effective.

Open-Source Software (Gabriel Giovene)

Eli Lilly integrated back in 2011 a new open innovation platform that is alongside the same concept of what open-source software is. It is designed to help build the companies systems of tomorrow and is what is used for their  research. The new platform is being titled as, Open Innovation Drug Discovery, that is supported by their new website that can be found by searching, http://openinnovation.lilly.com/.

The New Platform consists of three components:

  • TD^2, which is a target drug discovery, a new component that can screen submitted molecules with known disease targets

  • PD^2, this will continue to screen submitted molecules in cellular assays that is trying to accomplish the goal of identifying a new potential medicines acting by novel pathways

  • The three component is a new component that is used to fight against tuberculosis that may be resistant to the two forms of TB medicines that it could cause to spread if it is not treated correctly

  • A quote by Alan D. Palkowitz, explains how important this software web based browser can be for the company

    • "I think of Open Innovation Drug Discovery as a platform consisting of multiple superhighways all pointed towards the final destination of discovering novel medicines that we believe have the potential to improve patients' lives,"

Open-Source Software (Gabriel Giovene)

They are using their own web-based service that is being used through a secure website, an example of how it works is when a scientist submits one of these molecules through the website, it will run through specific requirements. This open-sourced software is a program website that scientists can use so that they can communicate about what kinds of changes needed to be made for the medication or the disease that they may be researching. (Gabriel Giovene)

Some types of new technologies that we may be seeing in our lifetime and even this year are:

  • Generative-Ai

  • Computing Power

  • Smart(er) Devices

  • Datafication

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning

  • 3D Printing

Some of the new technologies that we are using today, I can say that Eli lilly will end up using, maybe in the near future can be Artificial Intelligence and machine learning. The reason for this is because when we look at how this process works especially with medical data, they may be able to shoot information back to scientists a lot quicker than if humans were looking into it. They can go through all kinds of situations that will boost its success rate and help the scientists get out new medication faster to help people.

Others that can be viewed as being useful for Eli Lilly is the computing power, which can end up giving them the ability to process information faster and also get information across the branches a lot quicker. Also the data that this advancement brings to the company could also give them data that is a lot more accurate than what it was in the past years.

For 3D printing, that can be considered one that will not really be used, reason being because the process that they do does not really mandate them to have objects printed out in that form.

Datafication is another strong new technology system that Eli Lilly could end up using in the near future. Reason for this is because when we look at what datafication does, it converts aspects of life into digital data analysis and informed decision making. This can help with their scientists' research when seeing how medication can have effects on different types of diseases and also humans. (Gabriel Giovene)

BYOD policy (Noe Ayala)
BYOD stands for bring your own device policy, this is an organizational policy that gives employees’ permissions and responsibilities when they use their own device for business purposes.

BYOD policy & MDM software (Carlos Paco)
Based on an employee’s role and function he or she will be approved for an iPhone and laptop. Employees, contractors, and visitors must obtain specific documented permission prior to any audio and visual recordings including photographs. If an employee has been approved to take audio and visual recordings including photographs the recording will be recorded on the company’s phone and not the employee's personal phone. Additionally, the company prohibits company approved cells to be used for business purposes while driving unless for passive listening only. Such as listening to music, audio books, podcasts, training presentations, listen-only conference calls. The company uses MDM software such as Authenticator, PingID, F5 VPN, and mobility at work application that offers additional security.
